Swan Bells to ring out over Perth every day of the week

    Releasing the bell ringing schedule for the Swan Bells today, Arts Minister Mike Board said people would be able to hear the bells at either 1pm or 7pm, depending on the day of the week.
    "The bells will be heard at 1pm each day except on Tuesday and Friday, when they can be heard at 7pm," Mr Board said.

    "The bells will be rung for several hours each day. However, only part of each session will be heard at a distance because the sound proof chamber will be closed for practise and tuition periods.
    "This allows more people visiting the Swan Bells to see the bell ringers in action."
    Mr Board said nearly 20,000 people had visited the Swan Bells in the first week of being open to the public.
    "This means that on average, about 200 people are passing through the Swan Bells each hour they are open, which is well above expectations," he said.

    "This is a project which has attracted significant attention and the Government is pleased that so many people are visiting the site to see for themselves the wonderful attraction that has been created.
    "The majority of people who have visited the Swan Bells have expressed support for the project."
    The Swan Bells bell ringing schedule is as follows:

    Mondaynoon-2pm(open ringing at 1pm)
    Tuesday6-8pm(open ringing at 7pm)
    Wednesdaynoon-2pm(open ringing at 1pm)
    Thursdaynoon-2pm (open ringing at 1pm)
    Friday 6-8pm (open ringing at 7pm)
    Saturdaynoon-2pm (open ringing at 1pm)
    Sundaynoon-3.30pm(open ringing at 1pm)

    Mr Board said there would be no bell ringing on Christmas Day. However, on New Year's Day the Swan Bells would be part of the Centenary of Federation Ringing the Bells, which would see the Swan Bells rung at the same time as other bells throughout Australia for the five minutes before 1pm on New Year's Day.
    The bell ringing schedule will be advertised tomorrow and on Saturday in The West Australian.
    People interested in seeing the Swan Bells can inspect the building for free seven days a week between 8am and 8pm for the next four months.
