Premier Richard Court leaves today for Hong Kong to promote investment opportunities in the Western Australian tourism sector - which has generated almost one in five new jobs in WA over the past year.

Mr Court, who will be accompanied by WA Tourism Commission chairman Kevin Carton, said that he would be holding discussions at the weekend with corporate organisations currently considering investing in major tourism infrastructure in Australia.

"WA's tourism industry is growing at a rapid pace and it is important that the infrastructure is in place to meet this demand," the Premier said.

"The numbers of both international and interstate visitors to WA are growing at around 30 per cent - about double the national average."

Mr Court said the State Government was committed to supporting the tourism industry and was keen to attract potential investors to the State so that much-needed infrastructure could be developed.

"The tourism sector is one of the key industries in WA's economic growth and it is important that potential investors in Australia are aware of this State's strengths and potential when considering new projects," he said.
