Transport Minister Murray Criddle today announced the formation of a taskforce to co-ordinate public consultation in the Rockingham area for the proposed South West Metropolitan Railway.
"The taskforce will be headed by the Hon Barbara Scott, MLC South Metropolitan and will be comprised of newly appointed chief executive of the South West Metropolitan Railway, Ross Drabble, Chief Executive Officer for the City of Rockingham, Gary Holland, and Laurie Smith, an independent member of the Rockingham community," Mr Criddle said.
"The job of the taskforce will be to meet with members of the Rockingham community and to consider both formal and informal submissions regarding the proposed options. A report will then be prepared and submitted to Cabinet."
The master plan for the railway released by Premier Richard Court and Mr Criddle earlier this month contains three options for the Rockingham area, two which go directly into the centre of Rockingham via tunnels.
The third option, which is a direct route to Mandurah along the eastern outskirts of Rockingham, incorporates an integrated high-frequency bus system.
Mr Criddle said the anticipated 10 week period for submissions might be extended to enable the taskforce to hear all public submissions.
"Information on the three proposed options is available from the Rockingham City Council office, the Department of Transport's Urban Rail Planning Unit in Pier Street and by ringing the information line on 9231 2705," the Minister said.
