Teachers' Union urged to end confusion over alleged leaked documents
27/6/94
The State School Teachers' Union has been urged to end the confusion over alleged leaked documents which they have refused to show to the Education Minister.
Education Minister Norman Moore said today that verbal advice from journalists about the documents shown at a media conference today, conflicted with what Union secretary Peter Quinn was claiming on the weekend. Mr Moore's staff were denied access to the media conference.
Mr Quinn claimed on the weekend that he had copies of post-budget briefing notes to the Minister and today showed reporters a document headed 'Scenario for Planned Achievements by December 1996.
The Minister's office was now searching for the document based on the limited information provided.
"It is time for Mr Quinn to stop playing games and to show me the documents so I can properly discuss any issues," Mr Moore said.
"Whatever documents Mr Quinn may or may not have, there is categorically no secret agenda being run in education and any changes will only take place after thorough discussion with the education community."
The Minister said that if Mr Quinn provided copies of the documents tomorrow, he would promptly call a media conference to explain in detail, the meaning and status of any of the material.
