Thailand & Singapore national basketball teams to visit regional WA
29/3/99
Sport and Recreation Minister Norman Moore today announced visits to regional Western Australia by the Thailand and Singapore national basketball teams.
The visits, which will see Thailand travel to Kalgoorlie, Albany, Bunbury and Rockingham, while the Singapore team will go to Geraldton and Bunbury, are to be supported by the State Government's Country Sport Enrichment Scheme.
They will play local teams in each centre.
"I am delighted to say that the latest coup for the Country Sport Enrichment Scheme will see two national basketball teams in action in country areas," Mr Moore said.
The games will take place between March 29 and April 8.
"The Country Sport Enrichment Scheme is all about helping to take top-class sport to regional Western Australia and time and time again the scheme is doing just that," Mr Moore said.
"Perth Glory, Evonne Goolagong, the Western Warriors, leading triathletes and stars from most of the State's biggest clubs have been to regional WA thanks to the Country Sport Enrichment Scheme.
"We also have coming up a State football clash between WA and Tasmania in Kalgoorlie.
"In addition we have had top-class athletes heading to Geraldton and Albany for coaching clinics.
"The State Government is committed to supporting sport in regional WA and I am delighted to see the Country Sport Enrichment Scheme underlining that commitment."
