Thirty businesses chosen as finalists in Industry and Export Awards
5/9/97
Thirty of the State's best businesses have been selected as finalists in the 1997 Western Australian Industry and Export Awards.
Commerce and Trade Minister Hendy Cowan said the finalists had been selected from 69 companies and a total of 88 applications for the 12 awards.
"It is especially pleasing to note that 10 of the finalists have never previously entered the Industry and Export Awards," Mr Cowan said.
"Each year this competition uncovers new and exciting aspects of Western Australia's dynamic economy.
"These awards cover achievements in research and development, engineering and design; excellence in human resources and quality management; and export success in different sectors of the economy.
"There is also an award to cater for emerging exporters and as usual this category was hotly contested with 14 entrants."
Export award winners will go on to represent the State at the national export awards in November.
Winners will receive their awards at a gala event at the Burswood Showroom on October 17.
Finalists and winners are selected by a judging panel made up of representatives of the seven sponsors, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Trades and Labor Council and chaired by a leading Perth business academic.
The 1997 Western Australian Industry and Export Awards are sponsored by Argyle Diamonds, BankWest Business, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, the Department of Commerce and Trade, Ernst & Young, Hartley Poynton Ltd and The West Australian newspaper.
