Two projects in the Great Southern have been awarded grants totalling $174,000 from the State Government's Tourism Development Fund.
The funds will go towards installation of multimedia exhibits at Albany's Whaleworld and another boardwalk at Middleton Beach.
Tourism Minister Norman Moore said these projects were important attractions for visitors to Albany and the Great Southern.
"The proposed exhibits at Whaleworld will enhance visitors' understanding of the history of the whaling industry in Albany and the people involved," Mr Moore said.
The Minister said the Middleton Beach boardwalk would cater for both pedestrians and cyclists, and link the existing Ellen Cove to Pilot's Station path with the Surfer's Beach to Emu Point path.
The project would involve construction of a 500m boardwalk, an observation area and seats, bike stands, lighting and signage.
The grants would be matched dollar-for-dollar by the City of Albany and the Jaycees Community Foundation Inc.
The Minister said these partnership projects with local government and non-profit organisations would enhance visitor enjoyment and safety, and attract additional tourism to the area.
The Tourism Development Fund is administered by the Western Australian Tourism Commission and helps regional development projects where funds may not be easily accessible.
"The main purpose of these grants is to help fund valuable infrastructure that will enhance the quality and length of stay of visitors in regional areas of WA," Mr Moore said.
"The majority of funds are allocated to projects which will generate tourism expenditure.
"There is a strong focus on supporting regional tourism, which highlights the Government's commitment to the tourism industry in country areas.
"This will be especially helpful in areas where traditional industries may be facing declining growth."
The State Government grants are matched dollar for dollar by local governments and non-profit organisations to help promote regional tourism infrastructure.
Organisations are encouraged to apply to the WA Tourism Commission for funding for projects which will provide economic, social and cultural benefits for their community and region.
This year, more than $1.1 million has been allocated to 22 key tourism projects throughout the State.
