The Ravensthorpe-Hopetown Area Promotions group has been awarded a grant of $5000 from the State Government's Tourism Development Fund.
The funds will go towards construction of the first 9km stage of a heritage walk trail along the disused Hopetown-Ravensthorpe railway line between Desmond and Kundip.
Announcing the grant, Tourism Minister Norman Moore said the funds had been allocated for construction of the heritage trail in time for the centenary celebrations of Hopetoun and Ravensthorpe.
"The 53-kilometre walk includes some ancient geological features and a diverse range of plants," Mr Moore said.
"The trail will have rest area facilities and drop-off points along the route for those not wanting to walk its full length and will be built to Trailswest guidelines.
"This project will complement work already completed by the Railway Heritage Trail Steering Committee."
Ravensthorpe Hopetoun Area Promotions will match the grant dollar-for-dollar.
"This partnership project with a local non-profit organisation will help enhance visitor enjoyment, and attract additional tourism to the area," Mr Moore said.
