Trial of late night trains at weekends very successful
18/12/96
Transport Minister Eric Charlton said the late night trains which were run on Friday and Saturday nights were very successful.
Mr Charlton said almost 1,500 people used the services and they would be run again this Friday and Saturday night.
The late night trains - which are being trialled for another week - allow Perth's commuters to catch trains home up until 3 am.
They run hourly (on the hour) on all lines between midnight and 3 am, departing Perth at midnight, 1 am, 2 am and 3 am.
There are notices displaying arrival times of the trains at the terminal stations so travellers can phone ahead to be picked up.
Normal fares apply and security guards are in place as they are for normal services. Video surveillance also operates at the train stations and there are mobile security patrols moving along the lines.
Nightrider buses also run at 1 am and 3 am between Perth and Fremantle, Joondalup, Midland, Morley and Armadale.
