Tribute paid to prison staff who quelled riot at Casuarina Prison

Attorney General Peter Foss today paid tribute to the heroism and team work of the prison staff who quelled the riot at Casuarina Prison on Friday night.

"The situation was grim and the lives of officers were in immediate danger," Mr Foss said.

"Casuarina houses some of the most dangerous and violent prisoners in the State. A group of prisoners made a premeditated attack to gain access to drugs and once they had obtained them the disturbance spread.

"Officers from Casuarina and other prisons acted professionally and with great bravery to bring the situation under control. From the most senior to the most junior officer, all responded outstandingly."
