Premier Richard Court today paid tribute to the late Western Australian Senator, John Panizza.

Mr Court said Mr Panizza had fiercely defended the State's interests as a WA Senator.

"He travelled extensively throughout the State and had a very personal understanding of issues affecting Western Australians, particularly those impacting on people living in rural and remote parts of WA," the Premier said.

"He was also a very successful farmer, devoted father and a person who always unselfishly helped his colleagues or candidates seeking election."

Mr Court said Mr Panizza had been a stable influence within the Liberal Party and was well respected throughout the WA community.

"In his nine years as a senator, John Panizza became known as a voice of common sense and he always fought hard for the best interests of the State," he said.

"He will be fondly remembered and greatly missed."
