Police Minister Bob Wiese today paid tribute to the work done by retiring Police Commissioner Brian Bull.

"Mr Bull has had an outstanding police career with the pinnacle being his time as Police Commissioner," Mr Wiese said.

"During his nine years in the top job, he has overseen some of the biggest changes in policing ever seen in this State.

"The commissioner's dedication to ensuring the community became involved in helping the police force through such projects as community policing programs and neighbourhood watch has been instrumental in changing the traditional image of the police force.

"It has been a difficult time for the police force and Mr Bull has handled the situation well."

Mr Wiese said the Government would advertise locally, nationally and overseas for a new Police Commissioner.

The Minister said the process of change for the Western Australian Police Force would continue and the Government was determined to secure the best possible person for the position of comissioner.
