Tubemakers Steel has been awarded a Main Roads contract to supply the universal beams for two new bridges in the East Kimberley.

Transport Minister Eric Charlton said the $56,179 contract involved the supply of steel for structures over March Fly Creek and Camel Creek on Great Northern Highway between Halls Creek and Kununurra.

Mr Charlton said the two new bridges were excellent examples of the Government's continuing commitment to improving transport infrastructure in the Kimberley.

"Work on both structures will start in June-July and will be finished before the start of the wet season," he said.

Mr Charlton reminded interested people and organisations that their comments were being invited on the Kimberley Regional Transport Strategy (released last month) which outlined the present transport system and the way it should develop with the region in the next 25 years.

"The final document should reflect the genuine aspirations of the Kimberley community and the deadline for their comments is March 31, 1996," the Minister said.
