Transport Minister Murray Criddle today announced that two Main Roads contracts had been awarded for the construction of four additional passing lanes on Albany Highway in the Great Southern Region.
Works Infrastructure Pty Ltd have been awarded a contract to construct two passing lanes south of Kojonup at a value of $1.4 million. Henry Walker Eltin have been awarded a contract to construct two passing lanes north of Albany at Millbrook Road at a value of $947,100.
Work on both projects is expected to commence this month and be completed by May 2000.
"The four passing lanes are part of a State Government commitment to provide 10 passing lanes on Albany Highway between Beaufort River and Albany," Mr Criddle said.
Three passing lanes have already been constructed south of Kojonup.
The four new passing lanes and an additional four planned for delivery in 2003-2004, will bring to 11 the total number of passing lanes on the Albany Highway stretch of road.
"These lanes will greatly enhance the availability of safe passing opportunities along this important route," Mr Criddle said.
The projects are being funded from the Transform WA program.
