Two South-West beef producers first to achieve SQF 2000 quality accreditation

Primary Industry Minister Monty House said beef producers adopting quality assurance programs would ensure their products remained attractive to increasingly discerning consumers.
Mr House said three South-West beef producers were leading the charge by becoming the first to achieve SQF 2000 quality accreditation.
"Beef is an extremely valuable commodity for Western Australia and we need to ensure the quality is second to none. The SQF 2000 program is one step in guaranteeing quality," he said.
"SQF 2000 was developed by Agriculture Western Australia to meet consumer demand for quality. It is a very successful quality assurance code that is applicable to all sectors of the food industry including primary producers.
"The SQF 2000 quality code has gained great credibility both within Australia and overseas, and is becoming recognised as the new safe quality food system for the world."
Mr House presented certificates to Porongorup Prime Beef Group members Percy Surridge and family and Narikup producer Chris Norton and family.
He said the Australian beef industry relied heavily on export markets with 60 per cent of total production going overseas.
"SQF 2000 guarantees a premium and consistent product and provides consumers with confidence - particularly with branded beef," the Minister said.
"The State Government is committed to working closely with farmers to enhance the quality of their produce and the development of value-adding opportunities to secure further domestic and international markets."
