A two-day careers expo for job seekers, students and parents will be opened in Bunbury today (note 10 am) by Employment and Training Minister Norman Moore.

Mr Moore said the expo would feature 24 exhibitors, ranging from local employers and companies to training providers and universities.

"The expo will link job-seekers with prospective employers and training organisations and put them in touch with support organisations like Joblink and Skillshare," he said.

"It is an extremely useful tool for young people and other job-seekers to get first-hand information and advice on careers.

"It draws together an impressive array of exhibitors offering a wide range of information on career options."

Between 2,000 and 3,000 people are expected to attend the 11th South West Careers Expo at the Hay Park Recreation Centre.

Mr Moore said the expo would assist the State Government in fighting youth unemployment, which remained an issue of concern in Western Australia.

"Despite achieving the lowest youth unemployment rate, almost 7.5 percentage points below the national average and the lowest overall unemployment rate, we will continue to fight youth unemployment," he said.

"We must keep working to achieve consistent and sustainable job growth across WA."

Mr Moore said the State Government was proud to support the expo through the WA Department of Training and thanked local organisations, SCM Chemicals, Edith Cowan University and the South West Regional College of TAFE for their support.
