LandCorp has unveiled plans for an exciting $350,000 upgrade of the Koombana Beach West area in Bunbury.

Lands Minister George Cash said the project was part of extensive plans to revitalise Bunbury and create business and tourism opportunities.

The innovative Koombana Bay plan, prepared at the request of the South-West Development Authority, would see major improvements to the area, which included grassed areas close to the beach, planting of shade trees and large areas of shrubs and ground-covering plants to minimise water requirements.

Mr Cash said community access and facilities would also be upgraded with the construction of a grassed amphitheatre, timber boardwalk, an information centre and cycle and pedestrian-ways.

"The plans will take in a four hectare area north of Koombana Drive, west of The Plug and east of the silos," Mr Cash said.

"LandCorp will manage the entire project, funding the upgrade dollar for dollar with the South-West Development Authority."

Mr Cash said LandCorp was in the process of requesting approval for the plan from a number of authorities, including the Bunbury City Council, Westrail and the Department of Marine and Harbours.

"LandCorp is also keen for as much public input to the project as possible," he said.

"An artist's impression of the Koombana Bay upgrade will be included on a signboard in the project area."

Bunbury residents wishing to comment on the plans should forward written comments and ideas to LandCorp's landscape architect David White, care of South-West Development Authority.
