The Queen's birthday public holiday will be celebrated this year on dates other than September 30 for many towns in Western Australia.

Acting Labour Relations Minister Paul Omodei today announced this year's dates that vary from shire to shire.

"Towns can request to celebrate the holiday on other dates to coincide with local activities and celebrations," Mr Omodei said.

Applications were made to the Department of Productivity and Labour Relations (DOPLAR) at the start of the year, and have subsequently been set as listed below:

Town of Marble Bar and 150 kilometre radius Monday, July 8

Town of Port Hedland Monday, August 5

Karratha and 150 kilometre radius from Karratha, Dampier, Wickham, Roebourne, Point Samson and Whim Creek Monday, August 5

Shire of Halls Creek Friday, August 9

Town of Newman and a 150 kilometre radius from that town north, east and west, and to the southern boundary Monday, August 19

Shire of Murchison Monday, October 7

Shire of Exmouth Monday, October 14

Shire of Shark Bay Monday, October 14

Shire of Carnarvon Monday, October 14

All other localities Monday, September 30

Where another date is listed, Monday September 30 will be treated as an ordinary working day.

Mr Omodei said the Town of Port Hedland would be celebrating its centenary on Tuesday, October 22 1996, and a special public holiday has been proclaimed for this year.
