Work has begun on Golden Bay, Madora and Singleton water supplies

Work has begun on the Golden Bay, Madora and Singleton water supplies, Water Resources Dr Kim Hames said today.
Dr Hames said landowners in the three areas would now to get a secure and permanent water supply.
"When these projects are completed in May they will provide guaranteed drinking quality water and the convenience offered by a scheme supply, to more than 2,000 properties in the urban areas.
"Scheme water will be provided to 983 properties in Golden Bay, 514 in Madora and 770 in Singleton."
The projects, valued at $2.5 million, included installation of 16kms of water reticulation mains at Golden Bay, 10kms at Madora and 14kms at Singelton.
A total of four kilometres of distribution mains would also be installed at Madora and singleton.
All three projects were awarded to Western Australian contractors. Mainline Contracting was the successful tenderer for Golden Bay, DJ and MB MacCormick for Madora and Heyco Pty Ltd for Singleton.
Dr Hames said the competitive tendering for the contracts to provide water supplies in each of the three areas had resulted in cheaper rates for residents.
"The community contributions were reduced substantially from previous estimates due mainly to the competitiveness of the market," he said. "The payments required are now $215 for Golden Bay, $200 for Singleton and $1,000 for Madora.
"Madora's cost is higher because of the need to extend the water mains from San Remo.
"It is the smallest of the three areas and tenders for the reticulation main were higher and restoration costs greater.
"However, residents have the option of paying these fees over a 10 year period which should significantly ease any financial pressure, especially for those living in Madora."
Dr Hames said regular concessions also applied.
"Eligible pensioners are entitled to a 50 per cent rebate and Senior Card holders can claim a 25 per cent rebate," he said.
