Work proceeding on roadworks over Chapman River Geraldton
4/7/96
Work is continuing rapidly on the construction of roads for the new alignment of North West Coastal Highway over the Chapman River in Geraldton.
Two more Main Roads contracts totalling nearly $200,000 have just been awarded to two Geraldton companies as part of the project.
Transport Minister Eric Charlton announced that McInnes Concrete Services Pty Ltd had won a $70,000 contract to install a large concrete box culvert.
Patience Bulk Haulage had been awarded a $125,000 contract to load and cart road building materials for the project.
"These contracts are part of a $4.5 million State Government project to provide a new free-flowing road for heavy vehicles and other through traffic which have been using the old bridge over the Chapman River, originally built by convicts," Mr Charlton said.
"The project includes a new bridge now being built by Barclay Mowlem Construction Pty Ltd under a $1.6 million Main Roads contract.
"Work is progressing well and the new road is expected to be opened to traffic ahead of schedule in October."
