Attorney General Peter Foss said the State Herbarium was benefiting from the success of the work release scheme at the Nyandi minimum-security women's prison at Bentley.
"Three female prisoners are now working at the Kensington herbarium on a daily basis," Mr Foss said.
"They have worked out so well that Nyandi will be supplying a further work party of up to six prisoners on an as needs basis."
The three women began working full-time at the herbarium in November.
Mr Foss said herbarium staff were very happy with the placements.
"The women were interviewed for their positions by staff and the response has been extremely encouraging," he said.
"They report that the women are doing a wonderful job and have fitted in well."
Mr Foss said the prisoners were also enthusiastic about working at the herbarium.
"After just three weeks they have described the experience as having turned their lives around," he said.
Mr Foss said the Nyandi women were perfect examples of how well minimum-security female prisoners can work in the community.
