Yaberoo Budgara Heritage Trail in Neerabup National Park to be upgraded
20/9/99
Environment Minister Cheryl Edwardes announced today that the popular Yaberoo Budjara Heritage Trail in Neerabup National Park would be upgraded and realigned.
Mrs Edwardes said the Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) would begin work in mid-September to improve the 28km trail that stretches from Yanchep National Park to Joondalup.
"The Yaberoo Budjara Trail is a significant part of the network of the 95 Heritage Trails in Western Australia, which were created to commemorate the 1988 Bicentennial Year," she said.
"The Heritage Trails were established jointly by the Commonwealth and State Governments to highlight the important heritage sites in each region of Western Australia and to foster greater community awareness of their natural and cultural heritage.
"Since it was established 11 years ago, the Yaberoo Budjara Trail has proved extremely popular with many people using the trail and experiencing the natural and cultural values of the Swan Coastal Plain."
Mrs Edwardes said that sections 1, 3 and 4 of the trail - from Burns Beach Road to Pipidinny Road - would be temporarily closed to allow for the improvements to be made.
"However, walkers can still enjoy the diverse beauty and landscapes of sections 1 and 5 of the trail at Yellgonga Regional Park and Yanchep National Park," she said.
"In Yanchep National Park, a new 7.5km circuit trail from Loch McNess to Pipidinny Swamp has also been established.
"The circuit trail will take visitors on a journey through coastal heath, Tuart forest and Banksia woodlands and also provide an opportunity to view the array of spring wildflowers currently in bloom."
Other walks in and around Yanchep National Park include the Yanchep Rose Trail (7.5km), the Ghost House Trail (9.2 km), the Cockatoo Trail (14km) and the Coastal Plain Walk Trail (46km) and a three day hikers' trail from Yanchep to Melaleuca Park.
Mrs Edwardes said residents and walkers could obtain more information about the trail upgrade and temporary closing of sections from CALM Perth District Office on (08) 9405 1222 or Yanchep National Park on (08) 9561 1004.
