Yanchep National Park's Cabaret Cave is now open.
Environment Minister Cheryl Edwardes today re-opened the cave, a unique venue located in the heart of national park, on the doorstep of Perth.
Mrs Edwardes said Yanchep's Cabaret Cave was well known by many Perth families and had been the venue for an enormous variety of functions, including debutante balls, weddings and formal dances since it originally opened in the 1930s.
"Since the closure of the cave in the mid-1980's, the Department of Conservation and Land Management (CALM) has contracted engineers to inspect the cave's structure and necessary works have been undertaken," she said.
"The restorations and renovations have retained much of the cave's significant cultural and heritage values.
"The cave's custom-designed concrete floor, decorative columns and built-in seats have turned this natural chamber into a truly unique and creative venue that is ideally suited for any type of special event.
"The cave's acoustics, layout and constant moderate temperature and history makes it a fantastic venue that is reminiscent of eras gone by.
"Many people in Perth have great memories of attending special functions in the cave and we now are able to offer people the opportunity to experience this once again."
Mrs Edwardes said the cave's re-opening has already attracted great interest from the community, including a 200-person dinner, yoga classes and birthday parties.
The cave's reopening was part of a major improvement program undertaken during the past four year to upgrade Yanchep National Park's services and facilities for visitors.
"Work has included the upgrade and opening of Yonderup Cave, new walk trails, the establishment and opening of a Balga Mia Village, the beginning of the 100km Coastal Plains Trail walk, upgraded picnic and barbecue areas and disabled access among many others," the Minister said.
Mrs Edwardes said CALM was committed to making Yanchep National Park a high quality bushland retreat for the people of Perth where they could relax with a picnic or participate in the numerous activities the park has to offer.
"While the park has retained its original character, much of it has also changed and people who have not visited it in a long time will be surprised by what it now has to offer," she said.
