Hedland Coll. student named outstanding female Abor. voc ed student

A Hedland College student has been named as the State's outstanding female Aboriginal vocational education and training student.
Ann Sibosado, who studies Human Services, was presented with her Aboriginal Education and Training Award of Excellence in Perth tonight.
The awards are part of Education Week, which runs until Friday.
Announcing the award, Employment and Training Minister Norman Moore said Ms Sibosado impressed the judges with her all-round energy and dedication.
"Ms Sibosado has achieved excellent grades, while enthusiastically contributing to student life and the wider community," Mr Moore said.
"She is in every sense a positive, energetic and respected student at the college, and an outstanding role model for other students."
The Minister said Ms Sibosado was also a member of the college's Aboriginal education management committee, a volunteer member of a community policing inititative and involved in a local language centre.
He said the State Government was committed to improving Aboriginal education and training and providing greater opportunities.
The Department of Training actively promoted the participation of Aboriginal people in vocational education and training through its Aboriginal Services unit.
Other vocational education and training winners from the awards were:
· outstanding male student - Tony Cameron, Central Metropolitan College of TAFE;
· outstanding lecturer - Neville Poelina, Kimberley College of TAFE;
· outstanding college - South East Metropolitan College of TAFE; and -
· outstanding Aboriginal employment, education and training committee - Great Southern Regional College of TAFE.
