Perth now has another world-class competition and training swimming venue with the official opening today by Premier Richard Court of the Aquatic Centre at the Arena Joondalup.
The new $11 million Aquatic Centre was built by the State Government and the City of Joondalup and adds to the extensive sporting facilities available at the Arena stadium.
"The Arena is now one of the most comprehensive sporting and recreational facilities in Australia," Mr Court said.
The Aquatic Centre includes a 10-lane, 50m training and competition pool suitable for local, state, national and international competitions, complementing similar world-class facilities at Challenge Stadium.
As well, there are a 25m learn-to-swim pool, toddler pools, a new fitness centre, steam room and sauna, health and beauty clinic, physiotherapy centre, caf?, merchandise store and spectator seating for up to 800 people.
"With our outdoors lifestyle in Western Australia, learning to swim is vitally important," Mr Court said.
"We are therefore very fortunate to have many modern swimming pools and aquatic centres, such as the Arena, Challenge Stadium, Beatty Park and at schools and recreational venues around the State, that cater for people of all ages and skills."
The Aquatic Centre at the Arena is the latest addition to a range of facilities catering for all types of sports, including Aussie Rules football, rugby league and rugby union, soccer, netball, basketball, hockey, baseball, tennis, lacrosse, athletics, darts, badminton and karate.
