$10,000 cheque for Eaton foreshore renewal
6/9/02
The ongoing revitalisation of the Eaton River foreshore has been given a major funding boost from the State Government.
South-West Minister Jim McGinty today presented a $10,000 cheque to Dardanup Shire President Mick Bennett to provide lighting and assist with improving the area along the Eaton River between Watson Street Reserve and the Scout Camp.
"The work will make this foreshore very appealing for use by families in the area and for visitors during the day or evening as well as enhancing the area's safety," Mr McGinty said.
The South-West Development Commission on behalf of the State Government will administer the funding.
The Shire of Dardanup has been working with the Eaton community and other Government agencies to improve facilities along the Eaton foreshore.
So far, dual use pathways, landscaping, seating, steps and footbridges have been constructed to enable residents to enjoy the beauty of the river without directly impacting on it.
Today's cheque handover for Eaton follows Mr McGinty's announcement earlier today that a total of $1.5million would be spent on improvements to two of Bunbury's main waterfront areas.
This includes $1.1million beautifying the Rocky Point beachfront area, $200,000 on a shared sports facility for the Bunbury Senior High School on Ocean Drive and a further $200,000 to upgrade landscaping and recreational areas at the Koombana Bay Beach.
The work will fulfil commitments made by the Gallop Government in its Bunbury 2020 policy statement.
