$4million for Warnbro students

Capital works funding in the 2003-04 State Budget will see the biggest secondary school in the Rockingham-Peel area receive $4million worth of major additions.
Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter said the allocation for Warnbro Community High School was detailed in last week's State Budget, which he said focussed on building for the future.
"Warnbro Community High School now has an enrolment of more than 1,600 students and is in one of the fastest-growing regions in the State," Mr Carpenter said.
"Additional classrooms are to be built at the school to replace a number of transportable classrooms and to cater for the increasing enrolments."
Local member Norm Marlborough congratulated the Minister on reacting to the needs of the school.
"The rapid growth in the school population has placed a strain on the existing amenities," Mr Marlborough said.
"These works go a long way to rectifying that problem by taking the pressure off the school and providing better learning environments for students and teachers."
Mr Carpenter said the State Government would spend a record $3.5billion on capital works projects over the 2003-04 financial year, including $133million on capital works and refurbishment in WA State schools.
"Our schools should be showcases of community infrastructure, the sort of places which make local kids want to attend school, and to stay there as long as possible," he said.
"This initiative is about ensuring every child in the area has the kind of secondary educational environment that will maximise their chances of being a successful student, and then go on to bigger and better things.
"It is expected that architects will be commissioned in August this year and consultation with the school will commence soon after. The project is expected to be completed by late 2004."
Other school refurbishment, maintenance and capital works projects in the area as part of the 2003-04 State Budget include $2.5million worth of ongoing major additions to Mandurah Senior College and a $1million refurbishment of Safety Bay Senior High School.
