$777,000 funding boost for aged care programs in Perth's southern corridor
30/1/02
Home and Community Care (HACC) programs throughout Western Australia will receive an additional $8.76million to upgrade programs and develop new services, Acting Health Minister Sheila McHale announced today.
The South-West Metropolitan HACC region will share in more than $777,000 covering 16 separate projects.
HACC funding supports community-based programs offering home-based care for the elderly and young disabled people.
The additional grants mean more than $98million will be spent on HACC programs in WA this financial year, with $38.86million coming from the State Government and $60million from the Commonwealth.
"The additional funding recognises the high quality of existing services that require continued support," Ms McHale said.
"As well as providing for an increase in the level and diversity of services across the regions, additional funds have targeted the specific needs of people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
"The importance of carer support and respite services has also been recognised in this funding round."
Some of the additional allocations include:
- $59,000 to Mandurah HACC for centre-based day care and transport services;
- $152,000 to Myaree-based Care Options Inc for transport, personal care and home maintenance services;
- $24,000 to Kwinana Parish Mission for centre-based day care services; and
- $109,000 to Churches of Christ for centre-based day care in Rockingham and Mandurah.
