Access 31 broadcasts to Albany and Bunbury to continue
9/9/03
Albany and Bunbury will continue to receive Access 31 community television transmissions, at least until January next year.
Local Government and Regional Development Minister Tom Stephens said he had agreed to a three-month extension of the arrangements which allowed Access 31 to use the Government's Westlink satellite for 61 hours each week.
Mr Stephens said the Access 31 contract was due to expire today (September 9), but would now continue until December 30, 2003.
"The extension will ensure Access 31 broadcasts continue while Westlink finalises negotiations with satellite providers for a new contract," he said.
"These contract negotiations are expected to be resolved in the near future.
"Access 31 and the local governments affected, can also use this period to develop a viable long-term business model for the continuation of regional transmissions."
