Minister for Peel Mark McGowan has welcomed news of increased employment opportunities in the Peel region, as a result of Alcoa World Alumina Australia establishing a new office in Pinjarra.
Mr McGowan said the new office would provide a boost to the Pinjarra and Peel economies and provide wider regional employment opportunities.
"Both the Pinjarra and the Wagerup refineries are located in the Peel region and provide jobs for around 2700 local residents," he said.
"The new Alcoa office will result in an additional 60 jobs in the region, which will bring in more business for local retailers through employees lunches, fuel sales, groceries, catering and maintenance.
"There will also be employment opportunities for local companies during the construction of the new building.
"The Peel region's population is projected to grow by 135.7 per cent over the next 25 years - by far the highest projected growth rate in Western Australia.
"The decision to move 60 jobs down to this thriving area represents a vote of confidence in the region."
Mr McGowan said the Gallop Government was investing in a number of major infrastructure projects in the Peel region, including the southern suburbs railway and the Perth - Bunbury Highway. These major infrastructure projects are encouraging many businesses and residents to make the Peel region their home.
"We have invested heavily in Peel to bring more jobs and opportunities to the region."
