Armadale Community Reference Group announced
15/4/02
The people of Perth's South-East corridor will have direct input into the redevelopment of Armadale following the appointment of a Community Reference Group.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan today announced the members of the group, which will work with the Armadale Redevelopment Authority in creating a vibrant new city offering local people better services and providing a base for economic development.
Group members are Armadale residents Renee Baker, Kim Fletcher, Brett Tizard, Nola Bycroft and Annette Nicolson; Vivienne Hansen and Mathew Keogh, of Kelmscott; Mark Ashton, Bedfordale; Steven Erceg, Oakford; and Lesley Greenway, Karragullen.
Armadale Redevelopment Authority Board member and local resident Tony Buti, a lawyer and sports manager will chair the Community Reference Group.
"The Armadale Community Reference Group will act as an important conduit between the redevelopment authority and the community," Ms MacTiernan said.
"The group will give a broader and local perspective to the work of the Armadale Redevelopment Authority, putting ideas forward and giving feedback on proposals.
"The group represents a wide range of interests and backgrounds and they have been chosen on the basis of their track records in community activity."
Ms MacTiernan said that the reference group members would also be excellent ambassadors for the authority - ensuring the community was aware of its important work.
"Armadale's redevelopment will be a new style of urban renewal," she said
"For the first time, a redevelopment authority will focus on achieving community and economic development, not just property development.
"A successful partnership between the Armadale Redevelopment Authority and the community is vital to achieving those goals and the Community Reference Group will play a vital role in establishing that partnership."
