Artopia showcases South-West arts talent
24/10/05
Culture and the Arts Minister Sheila McHale today received a first hand look at the work of South-West artists as part of the State-wide Artopia festival.
Ms McHale toured Happs Pottery in Dunsborough, a ceramic studio and workshop where artists Myles Happ, David Thomson, Kim Potter and Alison Brown craft their designs.
"Artopia is a month-long festival which celebrates the artists living and working in the community and includes free exhibitions, artists' talks, open studios and viewings of private collections," she said.
"Happs Pottery is one of 200 venues from Esperance to Kununurra involved in showcasing the work of more than 2,000 talented Western Australian artists throughout the festival."
Ms McHale said Artopia received $75,000 in State Government funding through the Department of Culture and the Arts.
"Artopia provides a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy stimulating art works and artefacts which reflect WA's cultural identity," she said.
"Our artists' works are among the most collected, nationally and internationally, and Artopia gives us all an opportunity to see into their creative worlds."
The festival will run until Monday November 14.
