Kings Park will host a memorial service next month for Western Australians who were killed or injured in last year's terrorist bombings on Bali.
Premier Geoff Gallop said a ceremony would be held on the morning of October 12, the first anniversary of the bombing which claimed the lives of 88 Australians, including 16 Western Australians.
Dr Gallop said planning was under way for a simple but dignified service, which would also honour the courage and dedication of the volunteers, health workers and emergency service personnel who took part in the Bali evacuation.
He said a permanent Bali Memorial was starting to take shape on the river side of Fraser Avenue in Kings Park and would be completed in time for the October 12 service.
"The service will be open to all Western Australians who may wish to pay tribute to the victims and survivors of the Bali bombings along with those who, in their response, were an inspiration to us all," Dr Gallop said.
"It will also be a statement of solidarity, of unity against those who seek to destroy the rights and freedoms we cherish."
The Premier was speaking during a brief visit to Kings Park to inspect work on the Bali Memorial and associated gardens and picnic area.
He said the memorial would provide sweeping views of the city and Swan River and was designed to frame a shaft of dawn sunlight on October 12 each year.
Construction materials include Kimberley sandstone, weather resistant steel, jarrah and an eight-tonne granite boulder marking the entrance and featuring a bronze plaque with the names of those who died.
