Belmont Forum Shopping Centre is leading the way to sustainability - sourcing 10 per cent of its electricity needs from renewable energy.
Energy Minister Eric Ripper said the shopping centre was one of 90 businesses in Western Australia pioneering the use of Western Power's NaturalPower product.
Mr Ripper said WA households and businesses could contribute to the development of new renewable energy projects through NaturalPower, a nationally accredited product.
"Government, industry and community groups all have a role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions so that we all make a contribution to the local and global environment," he said.
The Minister said WA was fast developing a reputation as a clean, green State with the technology skills to match.
"The Gallop Government has worked hard to foster WA's renewable energy sector, so as to continue the strong growth the industry has seen in recent years," he said.
"Western Power's public procurement program will deliver up to 30 megawatts of new privately owned renewable energy generation by late next year."
Mr Ripper said support for renewable energy and efficiency initiatives was provided through the Sustainable Energy Development Office, established by the Gallop Government in 2001.
In early July, SEDO delivered $250,000 in grants to innovative local projects to slash greenhouse gas emissions.
The Minister said Western Power's alliance with Belmont Forum would also deliver significant community benefits.
"Starlight Children's Foundation is set to reap the benefits of Western Power's alliance with Belmont Forum," he said.
"Proceeds of $5,000 from environmentally friendly shopping bags produced by Western Power and Belmont Forum will be donated to the Starlight Children's Foundation, to grant a wish to a seriously ill child in the Belmont area."
