Boost for Fremantle and Northbridge tourism precincts
23/7/03
The City of Perth and Fremantle Chamber of Commerce will become the lead agencies driving tourism initiatives in Northbridge and Fremantle, Tourism Minister Bob Kucera announced today.
Mr Kucera said the two organisations were well equipped to maximise exposure and visitor enjoyment of the unique attractions and facilities offered by Fremantle and Northbridge.
"They were the successful applicants in a process designed to identify lead agencies to market the tourism precincts and work with stakeholders to target audiences and develop key messages," he said.
"Each organisation will match a Government grant of up to $30,000 to deliver tourism strategies that enhance the visitor experience - leading to longer stays and a greater injection of funds into Western Australia.
"This initiative meets a key election commitment by Labor to create Northbridge and Fremantle tourism precincts in recognition of their significance as entertainment, social, cultural and historical sites."
Fremantle and Northbridge have been designated tourism precincts because of the number and range of activities within easy reach, the facilities for visitors, the attitude of local businesses, transport options, shops and the availability of visitor information.
"The establishment of tourism precincts that consistently meet visitor expectations will translate into economic benefits that extend well beyond the Perth CBD," Mr Kucera said.
"They will also be promoted as part of the WA Tourism Commission's broad Brand WA strategy."
Mr Kucera said the Gallop Government was working to ensure WA became one of the world's great tourism destinations.
