Many Bunbury students will return to brand new or enhanced facilities when they head back to school on February 4.
Education Minister Alan Carpenter said a new library resource centre at Capel Primary School and an administration upgrade at Allanson Primary School were part of more than $20million in capital works and maintenance in Government schools over the summer holidays.
"The summer school holidays is the busiest time of the year for construction and maintenance in Government schools," Mr Carpenter said.
He said the $388,000 library at Capel Primary and $290,000 administration upgrade at Allanson Primary would be completed by the time staff and students returned to school.
"In addition to the new library, Capel Primary School had some painting work done and carpets installed at a cost of $20,000," the Minister said.
Other works carried out in the Bunbury District over summer are:

  • Yarloop Primary School - asbestos cement roof replacement, $30,000;
  • Australind Senior High School - replacement of floor coverings, $21,000; and
  • Bunbury Senior High School - refurbishment of change rooms, $35,000.
Education Minister Alan Carpenter said the works carried out or finalised over the summer holidays were a major part of the department's annual construction and maintenance program.
"As a result of the works program, thousands of students and staff will be working in great new surroundings this year," he said.
"The success of this year's program is due in large part to the effective working relationship of project teams from the Departments of Education and Housing and Works, their consultants and contractors."
