Butler Primary School to benefit from playground equipment
11/11/03
Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter today announced a $45,000 funding allocation for playground equipment at the new $5million Butler Primary School.
Butler Primary School, at the corner of Tollesbury Ave and Camborne Parkway, is scheduled to open with 350 students in February next year.
Historically, new schools have not been provided with the equipment, which includes items such as climbing frames, bridges, tunnels and monkey bars.
"Providing Butler Primary School with the money to buy the equipment means the school will be fully-equipped from day one," Mr Carpenter said.
"A more holistic approach to planning is part of the Gallop Government's commitment to building a better education system while providing Western Australian children with the best start in life."
The funding will pay for two pieces of steel and plastic circuit equipment - a large circuit for Year Two to Seven students and a smaller circuit for kindergarten, pre-primary and Year One students.
The equipment, which will be installed early next year, includes slides and jungle gyms.
Wanneroo MLA Dianne Guise welcomed the funding commitment and said the equipment was designed to challenge students and develop their fitness.
"Well-designed equipment is really important for the growth and development of young children," Ms Guise said.
"The idea is for children to have fun so they enjoy the development of balance and co-ordination that are essential skills in the early years and impact positively upon child development."
The school has chosen Australian-made equipment from Australian-owned company Forpark.
