Carnarvon Aquatic Centre to benefit from new community facilities
25/6/03
Residents and visitors to the Carnarvon Aquatic Centre are set to benefit from new community facilities thanks to a State Government grant of $23,593 announced today by Minister for the Gascoyne Tom Stephens.
Mr Stephens said the grant was administered through the Department of Local Government and Regional Development, under the Community Facilities Grants Program.
The Minister said the program was delivering a fairer deal for all Western Australians.
"The funds will assist the Shire of Carnarvon to revitalise the aquatic centre with new items, such as playground equipment and shade sails," he said.
"I also congratulate the shire for their commitment to improving local recreational infrastructure."
Mr Stephens said the renewal of the funding program was part of an important Gallop Government election commitment to help local authorities and community groups finance useful public amenities.
"We are developing a liveable, dynamic, and vibrant State," he said.
"The Community Facilities Grants Program will benefit local communities and the travelling public throughout Western Australia and I am pleased special attention has been given to the needs of visitors, to ensure they have access to these facilities.
"This represents good news for the Carnarvon Aquatic Centre, which will soon be able to provide customers with improved amenities to make recreation more enjoyable."
Mr Stephens said the project was also an excellent example of State and local governments working together to provide relevant facilities to local communities.
