A steering committee examining the establishment of a dedicated hospitality training centre in the northern suburbs has recommended Joondalup as its locations.
Training Minister John Kobelke released the report of the committee, chaired by Joondalup MLA Tony O'Gorman, for two weeks' public comment before taking a final recommendation to Cabinet.
The steering committee's recommendation follows a realignment of the Western Australian TAFE network earlier this year after a taskforce reviewed the State's training system.
Following the review, Cabinet endorsed the sale of the Carine Campus of West Coast College of TAFE.
Courses at Carine campus are being phased-out and the establishment of a dedicated hospitality training centre in the northern suburbs has begun.
Since the early 1990s, the hospitality industry has been supportive of a specialist facility to increase the standard of training in the industry within WA.
The steering committee was made up of representatives from the hospitality industry - including business proprietors, the Australian Hotels Association, the Restaurant and Caterers Association and Catering Institute of Australia - unions, the departments of Training and Education, and the Hospitality and Tourism Industry Training Council.
"I asked that the committee consider the best possible outcome for the establishment of a new world-class hospitality training facility," Mr Kobelke said.
"It was asked to consult with relevant stakeholders and advise me on a preferred location and the appropriate way to deliver this specialist training, taking into account the needs of industry and the community.
"The committee has recommended the Joondalup/Waneroo area as the most suitable location for the new facility and that it be located on the existing Joondalup campus of the West Coast College of TAFE."
Mr Kobelke thanked Mr O'Gorman and the steering committee members for their diligent work on this important public training facility.
