State Development Minister Clive Brown said today he would continue to pursue his proposal to expand community television access to regional Western Australia with the Federal Government.
Mr Brown had recently raised with Federal Communications Minister Senator Richard Alston the concept of providing additional frequencies to access 31, to enable it to broadcast to regional centres.
Mr Brown said he would now proceed to formally request Senator Alston's 'agreement-in-principle' to the expansion.
"There is still a great deal of work to do to get formal Australian Broadcasting Authority (ABA) approval but with the Federal Government's co-operation, we will have a basis for taking this much-needed project forward," he said.
The Minister said technical studies could be undertaken on the proposal, once support from the Federal Government was forthcoming. It had been envisaged that the expansion project would utilise local community transmitters formerly used for SBS re-transmitting.
