Construction starts on Ellenbrook Shopping Centre

The Insurance Commission of Western Australia has appointed Western Australian company Doric Constructions to build the new Ellenbrook Shopping Centre.
Government Enterprises Minister Nick Griffiths today announced that work on the $20million project had commenced this week.
"The centre will provide a much-needed retail facility for the rapidly expanding Ellenbrook community which boasts a population of approximately 30,000 residents," Mr Griffiths said.
"In addition to supermarket giant Woolworths, the centre will include approximately 26 specialty stores and a tavern."
The Minister said the construction represented the first of a number of stages to ultimately provide a regional shopping centre of up to 50,000sqm of floor space, similar in size to other large regional shopping centres in the State.
Perth architect firm Cameron, Chisholm and Nicol had been contracted by the Insurance Commission of Western Australia to design and manage the project.
Mr Griffiths said one of the Insurance Commission's core functions was to invest funds paid by policy holders to minimise the cost of insurance.
"The Insurance Commission's investment strategy is focused on maintaining a strong long-term investment return by including quality property assets such as the Ellenbrook Shopping Centre development," he said.
The new shopping centre is scheduled to open in early December.
