The City of South Perth and the State Government are working together to tackle local crime and anti-social behaviour and increase community safety.
Local Government Minister Ljiljanna Ravlich said a Crime Prevention and Community Safety Partnership would see council staff, police and other Government officers working more closely together.
"Safer communities are a Gallop Government priority, but everybody in the community has a role to play in crime prevention," Ms Ravlich said.
"This partnership will strengthen the already strong crime fighting relationship between the City of South Perth and the State Government.
"The city plays an active role in crime prevention and improving the safety of its community.
"This includes sharing intelligence with police and other agencies, providing security information to residents and businesses and initiating and supporting community development activities."
In recognition of the agreement, Ms Ravlich presented a cheque for $12,320 to help the city develop a community safety and crime prevention plan.
The plan will identify priority community safety issues in South Perth and identify responsibilities for implementing strategies to address them.
The Minister also opened the City of South Perth's new Community Policing Resource Centre, which accommodates WA Police Service community policing officers, along with the City of South Perth's Ranger Services and Safer City Officer.
"This resource centre symbolises the benefits our community gains from local government and Government agencies, including the WA Police Service, working together to address local crime issues," Ms Ravlich said.
The Minister also presented a $20,900 cheque to the city towards the cost of equipment for cleaning up graffiti. The funds were provided through the Gallop Government's $5million Crime Prevention grants program.
