Development approval for the proposed Old Perth Port Hotel at Barrack Square has been extended, following an application by the hotel developers, Environment and Heritage Minister Judy Edwards said today.

Country Lodging Australia Pty Ltd sought the extension because the approval provided by the previous Government lapsed before construction commenced.
The Court Government gave approval to the four-storey, boutique hotel in October 2000, following two formal public consultation periods in March 1999 and July 2000.
Approval had been given by the Environmental Protection Authority, Swan River Trust, Department for Planning and Infrastructure and the WA Heritage Council - with a significant number of conditions imposed.
As part the extension, Dr Edwards said two new development conditions had been added to ensure further protection of the river environment and to protect the adjacent heritage-listed Western Australian Rowing Club building.
"The developer is now required to provide a $200,000 bond - to be used by the Swan River Trust in the event that the applicant fails to complete the development or if remediation of the site is necessary," the Minister said.
"In addition, the applicant is required to ensure construction works do not cause damage to the WA Rowing Club's premises or impinge upon the club's activities."
