Dianella home auction to benefit community
18/9/02
Potential homeowners north of the river have a great opportunity to secure a choice house in Dianella, while at the same time supporting charity, Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens said today.
Mr Stephens said the State Government, through the Department of Housing and Works, was pleased to have contributed to a People Who Care (Inc.) 'Charity Home' which was put on the market today.
He said proceeds from the sale of the four-bedroom home, built on a discounted Landstart block in its successful St Andrew's Estate, would help seniors and tenants with disabilities to remain in their own homes.
"The department agreed to assist this worthy cause because the services of People Who Care are available to, and benefit, some of Homeswest's seniors and tenants with disabilities," the Minister said.
"Landstart, the land development arm of Department of Housing and Works, has been developing St Andrew's Estate since the early 1990s and about 750 lots have been created, with a further 220 to be developed."
Mr Stephens said People Who Care was a non-profit group, which provided voluntary assistance to seniors, people with disabilities and the disadvantaged, programs offered included a community day care centre for respite and social contact for aged clients and carers. Transport to medical appointments, lawn, garden and home maintenance and distribution of clothing and home appliances were other services offered at little or no charge.
To fund these services, the group undertook a variety of fund-raising activities, one of which was the construction and sale by auction of a home.
The Minister said the Department of Housing and Works also took part in a charity home auction last year by providing a lot in Manning at discount, with settlement when the home had been sold.
The builder, Ross North Homes, and many product suppliers also offered services and products at reduced prices to aid this charity.
This year's home The Dolce Vita, in Greenbushes Place, Dianella, constructed by Ross North Homes, would be displayed between September 21 and November 24, 2 - 5pm, with an auction being held on Sunday, October 13, at 2.30pm.
Mr Stephens said Landstart provided opportunities for many Western Australians to afford their own land and build their own houses.
Landstart offered affordable land in many different localities throughout the metropolitan region and also provided lots in country areas.
The Dianella land was well sought after for its proximity to the city, and community facilities.
