Skywest's decision to introduce direct jet services to Exmouth will provide a boost for the region's growing tourism industry, according to Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan.
Ms MacTiernan said the significantly faster jet services would operate twice a week with connections to Broome and would reduce the flight time to Exmouth by nearly an hour.
"The decision demonstrates a growing confidence in the market and will greatly assist the State in the promotion of two of the State's world class tourist destinations to both the domestic market and overseas visitors," the Minister said.
"The connection with Broome presents a unique opportunity for tourists to experience the attractions of the Gascoyne and Kimberley regions.
"Faster travel times are sure to appeal to the many visitors seeking the unique eco-tourism experiences on offer in our North-West.
"There is also potential for more jet services into Exmouth as mining and exploration activity in the area increase.
"We are talking to the mining companies to make sure that they use - whenever possible - scheduled, rather than chartered, services."

Skywest will operate a trial jet service direct to Exmouth from Perth each Thursday and Sunday, connecting to Broome, at the start of June to the end of October this year.
The airline will continue its regular service to Exmouth via Carnarvon on the other five days.
Ms MacTiernan said Skywest was to be commended for its commitment to developing its services to Exmouth and Broome, and also generally across the State.
"Exmouth has been identified as a key growth centre in the Gascoyne region as the town serves as one of the gateways to the internationally renowned Ningaloo Reef," she said.
"The Government's recent sale of a significant parcel of land at the Exmouth Marina Village and the planned development of a four-star tourist resort accommodating 600 people on the site is a significant catalyst to the future growth of the tourism industry in the town.
"I would encourage the community, the resources sector and the tourism industry to support the new and existing air services."
