Mr Brian Bradley has been appointed Director General of the Department of Consumer and Employment Protection.
Premier Geoff Gallop said today that Mr Bradley's appointment comes after nearly 18 months acting in the position during the formation of the new department.
"Mr Bradley has a wealth of experience from almost 40 years in the State's public service, particularly in more recent years in the field of occupational health and safety," Dr Gallop said.
"He has also overseen the amalgamation of the departments of Labour Relations, Fair Trading, WorkSafe and the Office of Energy Safety into the newly focussed and more efficient Department of Consumer and Employment Protection.
"His diligence and expertise has helped ensure a smooth transition in the creation of the new department. The department reflects this Government's commitment to improving workplace safety and health and ensuring that consumers, employers and employees are aware of their rights and obligations and the ways in which these can be enforced where necessary."
Dr Gallop said Mr Bradley's appointment was for five years.
