Duncan Ord to manage State Training Board

Duncan Ord, a prominent member of the Western Australian arts and education sector, has been appointed to manage the office of the State Training Board, the key vocational education and training advisory body.
The chair of the State Training Board, Marli Wallace, announced Mr Ord's appointment today and said she looked forward to working with him.
Mr Ord (49) was general manager of the Black Swan Theatre Company for the past four years and was a director of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.
Education and Training Minister Alan Carpenter congratulated Mr Ord on his appointment and said he has had extensive experience in education and training in Western Australia.
"Mr Ord has served as chair of the Arts, Sport and Recreation Industry Training Council, worked with many of this State's largest companies and has been involved in projects in regional WA," Mr Carpenter said.
"He will be a great asset, in particular in encouraging more young people into training and trade apprenticeship programs, which is a key area for the Gallop Government."
The State Training Board advises the Education and Training Minister on policy and strategies to meet the State's skill and learning needs.
It is responsible for developing of the WA Training Sector Strategy 2004 to 2010, with particular emphasis on apprenticeships and traineeships and small business.
The board also helps to increase industry investment in vocational education and training.
