A curfew on oversize loads travelling Western Australia's roads during Easter will improve safety for all motorists.
Main Roads has suspended permits for oversize vehicles on roads throughout WA from sunrise this morning, Thursday March 28, through to sunset, Tuesday April 2 inclusive.
Planning and Infrastructure Minister Alannah MacTiernan said the Easter curfew meant loads in excess of 4.5m wide or 30m in length (except road trains) would not be permitted.
"The curfew is part of the State Government's effort to reduce accidents on our roads and protect motorists during peak holiday times," Ms MacTiernan said.
"Oversize loads are becoming more and more frequent and overtaking them can be risky, especially for inexperienced drivers."
Ms MacTiernan applauded the transport industry for its co-operation in supporting the Easter curfew initiative.
"Main Roads has worked closely with the transport industry to ensure their operators plan ahead," she said
"However, in an emergency - such as a mine breakdown - that requires oversize equipment to be freighted in, consideration will be given to relaxing the curfew."
