Housing and Works Minister Tom Stephens today congratulated Eastern Horizons on winning the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) Award for Excellence in Community Based Planning.
Mr Stephens said Midland Project Management, which managed Eastern Horizons for the Department of Housing and Works and the Swan City Council, was presented with the national award in Adelaide.
The Minister said the first stage of the project in the Midland/Midvale area won the State-based award at the end of last year, qualifying for the national awards.
"Midland Project Management was engaged by the Department of Housing and Works to manage its innovative and internationally recognised New Living program in Midland/Midvale, Koongamia and a part of Swan View," he said.
"The New Living program is the biggest urban renewal ever undertaken in Western Australia and is turning more than a quarter of the State's public housing into viable communities.
"I congratulate all involved who have, through community-based planning, made a vibrant community in Midland/Midvale where there used to be tired, outdated public housing."
