Outstanding environmental achievements in Western Australia's resources industry are being sought, with nominations now open for the Golden Gecko Awards for Environmental Excellence.
State Development Minister Clive Brown said the annual Golden Gecko Awards highlighted examples of best environmental practice within WA's minerals and petroleum industries.
"WA's resources industry has a world-class reputation for implementing and sustaining sound environmental practices," Mr Brown said.
"These prestigious Golden Gecko Awards play an important role in acknowledging the contribution individuals and organisations in the minerals and energy industry can make towards the conservation of our State's environment.
"By recognising advances and innovations in environmental practice, the awards can also foster further improvement throughout the industry."
Nominations can be submitted for a wide range of activities including innovation, community involvement and public awareness, exploration, waste management, employee awareness, and prospecting. The deadline for nominations is 4pm Friday, March 29, 2002.
In 2001, Golden Gecko Awards were presented to a partnership between the Western Australian Museum and Woodside Energy, as well as to Homestake Gold of Australia.
Certificates of Merit were also presented to prospector Victor Dale and Homestake Plutonic Gold.
